Working Principle Analysis of Dual-Tower PSA Nitrogen Generator

A-Series

Pressure Swing Adsorption (PSA) dual-tower nitrogen generator is the most widely used gas separation equipment in industrial nitrogen production, relying on the physical adsorption characteristics of carbon molecular sieve (CMS) to realize air separation and high-purity nitrogen preparation. The core working principle is based on the different adsorption capacities of oxygen, nitrogen, water vapor and other components in compressed air on carbon molecular sieve under different pressure conditions. Under normal temperature and pressure, oxygen molecules with smaller kinetic diameter and faster diffusion speed are easily adsorbed by CMS, while nitrogen molecules with larger diameter are difficult to be adsorbed and pass through the sieve layer smoothly, thus completing the separation of nitrogen from air. The dual-tower structure is the key to its continuous and stable gas production, consisting of two independent adsorption towers that work alternately without interruption.

The operation cycle of the dual-tower system is divided into pressure adsorption, pressure equalization, decompression desorption and purging regeneration four core stages. When the first tower is in the high-pressure adsorption working state (working pressure 0.8-0MPa), compressed air after filtration, dewatering and degreasing enters the tower, oxygen and impurity gases are adsorbed by CMS, and qualified nitrogen is output from the tower top. At the same time, the second tower is in the decompression regeneration state, releasing internal pressure to normal pressure, the oxygen and impurities adsorbed on the surface of the molecular sieve are desorbed and discharged out of the system with the purge gas, realizing the regeneration of the molecular sieve adsorption capacity. After the completion of a single working cycle, the two towers switch working states through the automatic control system.

The automatic control system acts as the brain of the dual-tower PSA nitrogen generator, accurately controlling the switching time of each stage, generally with a cycle time of 60-120 seconds. This alternate working mode completely solves the problem of intermittent gas production of single-tower equipment, ensuring 24-hour continuous and stable nitrogen supply. In addition, the equipment operates at room temperature without chemical reactions, with low energy consumption, simple structure and low failure rate. The nitrogen purity can be adjusted freely between 90%-99.99% according to industrial needs, which can meet the nitrogen supply requirements of food preservation, electronic processing, mechanical protection and other conventional industrial scenarios.
