The pressure relief valve is the core safety protection component of the nitrogen generator, responsible for releasing excess internal pressure to prevent equipment over-pressure explosion and pipeline rupture. The normal operation of the pressure relief valve directly determines the safety of the entire nitrogen supply system. Long-term operation, dust accumulation, and component aging will cause valve blockage, inflexible switching, pressure failure, and other faults, leading to serious safety hazards. Regular professional inspection and testing of the pressure relief valve are essential daily safety maintenance work.
Understand the working principle and inspection cycle of the pressure relief valve first. The pressure relief valve is set with a fixed rated pressure threshold; when the generator’s internal pressure exceeds the standard value, the valve automatically opens to release pressure, and closes tightly when the pressure returns to normal. For household nitrogen generators, a full valve inspection is required every 3 months, and industrial continuous operation equipment needs monthly inspection. The service life of conventional pressure relief valves is 1–2 years; aging valves must be replaced regularly even if no faults are found to avoid failure failure in emergency pressure relief.
Carry out visual inspection and manual trial operation daily. First, visually check the appearance of the pressure relief valve: observe whether the valve body is rusted, deformed, cracked, or stained with oil and dust, and check whether the exhaust port is blocked by foreign matter. Blocked exhaust ports will cause pressure relief failure and lead to equipment over-pressure. Then perform manual lifting test: gently lift the valve’s pressure relief handle when the equipment is running at rated pressure, observe whether the valve can exhaust gas smoothly and reset tightly after loosening the handle. If the valve is stuck, slow to reset, or cannot exhaust gas normally, it indicates abnormal valve operation that needs timely maintenance.
Conduct professional pressure calibration and functional testing regularly. Use a professional pressure gauge to calibrate the opening pressure of the relief valve. Adjust the generator’s output pressure gradually to approach the valve’s rated relief pressure, and record the actual opening pressure of the valve. If the opening pressure is higher than the standard value, the valve cannot release pressure in time; if the opening pressure is too low, the valve will leak frequently and cause gas waste. Both deviations require professional debugging. Clean the valve internal spring, valve core, and sealing gasket regularly to remove dust and oil dirt deposits that cause inflexible movement and poor sealing.
Clarify valve replacement standards and fault handling methods. Replace the pressure relief valve immediately if the following situations occur: severe valve body rust and deformation, spring fatigue and failure, inability to reset after pressure relief, persistent air leakage, and large deviation between actual opening pressure and standard parameter. After replacing the new valve, conduct multiple pressure relief tests to confirm stable and accurate performance. Standardized pressure relief valve inspection and maintenance can build a reliable safety barrier for nitrogen generator operation and avoid over-pressure safety accidents.
