Snacks are core categories in the food consumer market, covering puffed food, nuts, baked pastries, dried meat snacks, candy products and many other subdivisions. Most of these products are characterized by high oil content, crisp texture and easy oxidation. During the whole process of warehousing, transportation and shelf sales, they are prone to rancidity, softening, darkening, mildew and deterioration due to the influence of oxygen, moisture and temperature, which seriously shorten the shelf life and affect consumer experience and brand reputation. In the standardized production system of modern food industry, modified atmosphere packaging technology has become a core method for snack preservation. By replacing the air inside the package to form an inert sealed environment, it can lock the flavor, texture and quality of snacks for a long time without adding a large number of chemical preservatives, conforming to the current consumption trend of healthy food.
The core medium of modified atmosphere packaging is food-grade high-purity nitrogen. As a colorless, odorless and chemically stable inert gas, it will not react with food ingredients and has extremely high safety, making it a recognized high-quality preservation gas in the food packaging field. Traditional snack manufacturers mostly adopt the mode of purchasing liquid nitrogen or bottled nitrogen. Although it can meet basic production needs, it has many drawbacks in long-term operation. The transportation, handling and cylinder replacement of bottled nitrogen are cumbersome, which may easily interrupt the continuous operation of packaging production lines and reduce production efficiency. Liquid nitrogen storage tanks occupy large space, require exclusive storage areas, and have potential safety hazards such as low-temperature leakage and excessive pressure. At the same time, the comprehensive cost of gas procurement, transportation and tank leasing remains high. For snack enterprises with large-scale mass production, the long-term cumulative expenditure will greatly compress product profit margins. Therefore, efficient, low-cost and intelligent on-site gas generation equipment has gradually replaced the traditional external gas supply mode.
Pressure swing adsorption nitrogen generation is the mainstream on-site gas production technology adapted to snack packaging production. Relying on mature air separation principles, it uses atmospheric air as raw material and can continuously produce high-purity clean nitrogen at room temperature without complex processes such as low-temperature liquefaction and high-temperature cracking. The equipment adopts high-quality carbon molecular sieves as the core adsorption medium. Based on the differences in diffusion rate and adsorption capacity between oxygen and nitrogen molecules, it realizes accurate separation of oxygen, moisture and impurities in the air and nitrogen purification through the alternating cycle of pressure adsorption and pressure relief desorption of two sets of adsorption towers, achieving 24-hour stable continuous gas supply. Equipped with a complete air pretreatment system, the equipment thoroughly removes oil stains, dust and water vapor in compressed air through multi-stage filtration and drying processes, ensuring that the produced nitrogen is clean and fully compliant with food production safety standards.
Compared with traditional gas supply methods, on-site nitrogen generation equipment adapted to snack production lines has multiple core advantages, which perfectly fit the production characteristics of the food packaging industry. Firstly, the cost is highly controllable. After equipment investment, only a small amount of electric power and compressed air are consumed. There is no need for continuous gas procurement, which greatly reduces the long-term gas cost of enterprises with a short payback period, suitable for large, medium and small snack manufacturers. Secondly, the production stability is excellent. The highly intelligent equipment can produce gas immediately after startup with fast response speed, accurately matching the gas demand of packaging machines. The air pressure and flow rate are stable, avoiding problems such as insufficient inflation, excessive inflation and gas fluctuation, and ensuring consistent packaging quality of each batch of products.
In addition, the equipment features strong adaptability, allowing flexible adjustment of nitrogen purity and gas supply flow according to different snack categories. For crisp snacks such as puffed chips and biscuits, medium-purity nitrogen can be used to isolate oxygen and moisture for fresh-keeping, and buffer external pressure to prevent fragmentation and damage caused by extrusion during transportation. For high-oil products such as nuts, dried meat and fried snacks, the high-purity gas production mode can be switched to maximize the inhibition of oil oxidation and deterioration, effectively extending the shelf life. The equipment has a compact structure and small floor area, which can be directly deployed beside packaging production lines to supply gas nearby, reducing pressure loss and gas waste caused by pipeline transportation. It requires no factory renovation or exclusive machine room, realizing flexible and convenient deployment.
In terms of process application, the standardized nitrogen supply process can comprehensively improve the quality and compliance of snack packaging. The stable inert gas environment can effectively inhibit the breeding of bacteria, molds and other microorganisms inside the package, reduce the risk of food deterioration from the source, and decrease the use of additives such as preservatives and antioxidants to make products more in line with healthy consumption needs. The uniform inflation process makes the packaging bags full, flat and neatly shaped, improving the shelf display effect of products. Meanwhile, the gas buffer structure can resist extrusion and bumping during logistics transportation, greatly reducing product damage rate and enterprise production loss. In addition, the equipment realizes fully closed gas production with zero pollutant emission and low operating noise, conforming to the clean, environmentally friendly and low-noise production specifications of food factories and helping enterprises pass food safety production qualification audits.
To ensure the fresh-keeping effect of snack packaging and production stability, daily operation and maintenance as well as parameter control of the equipment are particularly important. Enterprises shall fix gas production parameters according to main snack categories. High-oil and long-shelf-life products require stable high-purity gas production, while ordinary puffed snacks can adjust parameters reasonably to realize energy-saving operation. It is necessary to regularly inspect the front-end filtration system and replace filter elements in a timely manner to prevent oil and water vapor from polluting molecular sieves and affecting nitrogen purity, and regularly check the tightness of pipelines to avoid gas leakage and ensure stable gas supply. Meanwhile, relying on the intelligent equipment monitoring system, core data such as pressure, flow rate and purity are monitored in real time with automatic abnormal alarms, eliminating the need for full-time duty and greatly reducing labor maintenance costs. Standard daily maintenance can effectively extend the service life of the equipment and ensure
