PSA CMS carbon molecular sieve nitrogen generator is the most mainstream on-site nitrogen production equipment for medium-to-high purity industrial scenarios, adopting ambient-temperature Pressure Swing Adsorption (PSA) separation technology with carbon molecular sieve (CMS) as the core adsorptive medium. Different from common activated carbon, industrial-grade CMS is processed from coconut shell and high-purity anthracite via high-temperature carbonization and pore modification, with precisely controlled micropore size ranging from 0.3 nm to 0.5 nm. This customized pore structure realizes kinetic gas separation based on molecular diameter difference: oxygen, carbon dioxide and water vapor have smaller molecular volume and faster diffusion speed, which can be rapidly adsorbed into CMS micropores under pressurized working conditions, while nitrogen molecules with larger kinetic diameter cannot enter the pores and flow out as qualified finished gas. A standard PSA CMS nitrogen generator is equipped with two parallel adsorption towers, automatic pneumatic switching valves, pre-filtration modules and nitrogen buffer tanks to form a closed-loop separation system.

The whole working cycle includes high-pressure adsorption and low-pressure desorption regeneration, which runs automatically in cyclic switching mode to achieve uninterrupted nitrogen output. When one tower finishes oxygen adsorption and reaches saturation, the control system instantly switches pipeline pressure to negative pressure state, discharging adsorbed oxygen and impurities into the atmosphere to regenerate CMS materials. This cyclic regeneration design avoids frequent replacement of adsorbents, and the service life of high-quality CMS can reach 8 to 10 years under standard air intake quality. Supported by intelligent PLC control, operators can adjust nitrogen purity flexibly from 95% to 99.999% by modifying adsorption time and operating pressure, covering diversified industrial gas demands. Equipped with multi-stage precision filters, the equipment removes oil mist, dust and condensed water from raw compressed air to prevent CMS pore blockage and performance degradation.

This type of nitrogen generator boasts prominent comprehensive advantages in industrial application. It features stable nitrogen purity, strong anti-interference ability of working environment, and low daily energy consumption without heating or chemical reaction during operation. Compared with liquid nitrogen outsourcing and cryogenic air separation equipment, it cuts long-term gas procurement and transportation costs by 30% to 50%. It is widely deployed in food modified atmosphere packaging, electronic component welding, chemical tank inert blanketing, laser cutting, pharmaceutical packaging and metal heat treatment industries. Its only limitation is strict requirement on inlet air cleanliness, so matched air purification accessories are mandatory for long-term stable operation in heavy-oil industrial workshops.
